Established by Rob Schwager, Tiny Bird Press is a small, one-man print shop. It’s where I create limited edition, hand-printed serigraphs (screen printed art). I used to screen print my own poster and flyer designs for various punk rock shows and concerts back in the 90’s while living in Chicago. I missed the hand-made, DIY process of creating those prints. So, I decided to re-visit those days by starting Tiny Bird Press. All the artwork for my prints is created in the traditional manner using pencils, paper, erasers, etc… as well as the occasional computer. Turns out, he was just a character made up for the movie. However, in doing all this reading, I came to learn a great deal about the incredible man known as Houdini. I became obsessed. I learned of his meager upbringing. His drive to excel at whatever he did. His incredible work ethic. How reading a book about magician Robert-Houdin, at an early age changed his life and set him on the path that would eventually make “Houdini” a household name. When I was a kid, we’d leave the house as early as possible, have adventures outside all day long and then we’d practically have to be hunted down by our parents after dark to come in for dinner and then eventually bed.

Lightning Bugs. Glow worms, etc… Different names, depending on which region of the country you grew up in, but they all meant the same thing.</p> <p>Growing up in Chicago, June and July meant the lightning bugs were back! At night my friends and I used to catch them and put as many as possible into jars. We’d almost always release them before our parents called us in for the night. Unfortunately, since moving to Florida, we don’t have lightning bugs around here. My kids had never seen a lightning bug and hadn’t experienced the fun of chasing and catching them. That is, until last year, when my daughter went up to Illinois to visit her grandparents for a couple weeks. She went in June and got to experience the thrill first hand. When it was broadcast live on TV that man had first set foot on the moon.</p> <p>I was getting ready to print last week when I heard that Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos had found the Apollo 11 booster rockets and was planning to recover them.  I couldn’t believe that the timing of his announcement coincided with my latest art print. I’m glad that private individuals like Bezos are able to pick up the mantle held by NASA for so long and continue to try and explore space.  </p> <p>I hope that future generations can feel that same sense of awe and wonder and be inspired as I have been.</p> <p>“One Small Step”</p> <p>19″ x 25″ Limited Edition hand-pulled silkscreen print</p> <p>Notes:<br/> - 19″ x 25″ on 100lb.
